Have a heart!
We took our last chapter test today in Math. We will review our topics since the beginning of the year. We will have our final exams next Thursday and Friday. We will also start testing in Reading next week. Tomorrow in Reading we will look at the poem The Rose Family by Robert Frost.
In Science we did our second lab with Ms. B by dissecting a pig heart. We still have two more dissection labs(eye and kidney) that we will do the last week of school.

Forni di Sopra
We had a Socratic circle this morning about the poem Just Suppose. We had some good participation!
In Math we corrected our homework, did a makeup test on surface area and volume as well as begin our review of Chapter 15. Our last chapter test is on the 26th.
In Science we took our last test on the human body systems. We only have labs and our projects left!!
Tomorrow we leave for Forni si Sopra for our field trip. Bring rain jackets and changes of shoes and socks as the weather forecast is RAINY!

Lung Dissection
In Math we talked about how to find volume with unit cubes. We need to count the number of cubes and then multiply it by the volume of each cube.
In Science we dissected a pig lung!! Check out these pics:

Surface Area
In Math we came across the most difficult section of the chapter. We learned to find the surface area we need to first sketch the net and then find the area of each of the polygons. We can often us multiplication when we have shapes that are the same.
Finding surface area: nets of polyhedra: Now we shift our focus towards surface area (which is the sum of all the areas of all the shapes that cover the surface of the object). Let's apply it to the polyhedra net we learned about in the previous video. We'll walk you through it.
In Reading we were interviewed by grade 3 about our trip to Duino on Friday.
In Art we worked on watercolor paintings.

The Castle of Duino
Grade 5 students visited the Castle of Duino on Friday. We had a great guide who told us all about the history of this interesting castle and the family that still lives there. We had lunch in the park of the Miramare castle and talked about the differences between the two castles.

Drawing Cubes and Rectangular Prisms
In Math today we used dot paper to construct 3D shapes, specifically cubes and rectangular prisms. We even drew some difficult shapes using connecting cubes.
Don't forget about our field trip tomorrow to Gorizia!

Surface Area and Volume
We had our first Socratic Circle today and it was a big success! Well done to everyone. Our next one will be next Wednesday.
In Math we also started our last chapter on surface area and volume. We specifically talked about the unit cube and volume.
In Technology we looked at our commercials and started to work on our final movie projects.
In Band we worked on a new song, a classic, Proud Mary by CCR.

Test Success!
Great job to all on our test today. We scored the highest average of the year!
We will move onto our LAST chapter tomorrow looking at surface area and volume.
Also don't forget to come with your poems ready for tomorrow's Socratic Circle.

3D Solids test tomorrow!
In Math we reviewed for our test on 3D solid figures. We need to be able to count the faces, edges, vertices as well as recognize the correct nets. Our test is tomorrow!
In Reading we went over the Socratic circle. We will have our first circle on Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken on Wednesday. I can't wait to hear our dialogue. Make sure you come with the poem, notes and questions.
